A Holiday Season We Never Expected

Updated: Dec 5, 2020

I love the holidays. I love the lights, the family gatherings, the creativity behind every thoughtful gift and baked cookies. I love the smell of pine from the fresh Christmas tree we just brought home. But 2020 has been a year we never expected. We didn’t expect that a pandemic would effect so much of our everyday lives and those we love. We didn’t expect the political and racial tensions that have brought so much division. We didn’t expect a life with masks and social distancing, and we didn’t expect to being doing school and church online. Even though this past year has had many unexpected detours, we can be confident that God can “work all things together for good to those who love Him.” Slow down, enjoy the little things, make Christmas simpler. Rather than focus on the gifts, cherish family time in new and unexpected ways.

1. Make homemade candles

2. Bake cookies

3. Make your gifts

4. Hike a trail and notice the beauty around you.

5. After a meal, take time to share one thing that you love about your family.

6. Pray as a family

7. Donate toys or make a meal for those who lost a job.

We will get through this. Stay encouraged.
